Horticulture, Rooted in STEM: Growing Food, Beautifying Spaces, Enriching Lives

Join us to explore how horticulture connects STEM concepts to everyday life. Educators will discover the science of managing pests with beneficial insects (part of IPM), the technology and engineering of robotics and automation in modern growing facilities, and the mathematics used to calculate garden layouts and planting timelines. The session also highlights genetics, phenology, and native plant impacts on ecosystems. Participants will learn about diverse horticulture careers, from hands-on outdoor work to technician and indoor roles. Grant resources and reference websites will be shared to support teachers in their classroom activities.
